I wish I could, but I don't know myself! Perhaps one of the more knowledgable mods. :)

Hi!! ;)

I have got the 'Complete Castanets take' from 'I, Me, Mine', and I would like to upload here, as there is more spoken dialogue about the castanets, but I can't understand it. I thought that, if I learn how to upload here a mp3 file, maybe anyone of you could transcribe the 'Castanets dialogue' for me...

So..., could you help me??

Thank you in advance and best wishes!! ;)

Xose

Send me the mp3 by e-mail and I will put it in here.

Well I only hear Paul and George.

It goes something like this :

George : ...castanets...that bit.
Paul : Yeah we may it give a touch.
George : You know a little.Yeah,it's very quick so it's no hang-up...castanets in that bit you know yeah ... 'all through the day, I, me, mine'.
Paul : Ah,ah,ah,ah...
George :...faster
Paul : I'm following you anyway
George : OK
Paul :...la la la...(more French than Spanish)...

Very good!! ;)

BTW: what does "...hang-up..." mean??

It seems as if JL is mocking about George's idea of including castanets in the song..., doesn't he?? He shouts from backwards "...castanets???...", doesn't he?? Maybe I'm mistaken but it sounds as if he considered George decission ridiculous...,

What do you think??

Best!! ;)

I don't know, it all sounds good-natured to me. They sound like they're goofing around, as they often did when they composed. Much of what John said, particularly in this period, shouldn't be taken seriously anyway (I'm certain his bandmates didn't). ;)

As far as "hang-up", I'm not sure. George could be meaning it won't hold up the song very much, or it might mean it's such a small bit it's not worth worrying over (given the light-hearted ridicule his suggestion was met with). I need a native English person to tell me what he or she thinks!

And thanks for posting that clip, Bobber. I wouldn't have a clue.

in this instance, 'No hang-up', simply means 'it's no big deal' 'Not a worry.'

This was just something (a small castanet part) that any of them could record at a later point.

Aha... I understand it now... Very good!! ;)

Thanks a lot!! ;)

Do you think John is mocking George about his decission of including a castanets part into the song?? It seems like that..., isn't it??

Maybe the 'whole thing' would be better understood if Bobber could upload my mp3 file with the take before that one...

Best!! ;)

I don't think there is mocking, they are smoking cigarettes and searching together for something to 'lock in' (make tighter) the 12/8 tempo in my opinion. Sounds like they are in good spirits.

I thought I heard Ringo or Paul mention 'Blackpool Castanets' but that does not make much sense. I also heard a 'Bravo' and I wonder the way Paul says 'touch' It sounds more like toosh. Playing on pronounciation/posh/refined accent perhaps?

It seems this is only a quick version, so they just want to lay something like the castanets down quickly to fix the feel.

Mmm... Very good points!! ;)

Specially those about 'toosh' and 'Bravo!!'... So... does 'toosh' mean something like posh accent??

Maybe it would be useful to upload the take before. I have it but I have to wait until Bobber aks me for send ot to him and upload it...

Thank you very much for your help!! ;)

No, toosh is touch in this instance. It is just spoken differently.

Here there is another take... Maybe it could clarify the 'Castanets affair'...

This video sheds no more light on the subject from what I can gather. Funny hearing Lennon with his 'strange tongues' at the beginning but being in a studio for long hours makes you develop a funny kind of humour for sure.

Thanks once more time!! ;)

I know there is another one where Lennon sings the song in a... 'mocking'?? way. I will try to find it and giving here the link, as it could shed more light on the subject...
