I've never been too sure of the story of this. We all know that Mr McCartney was never exactly a number one fan of the legendary rock accountant. But when did Lennon finally fall out of with him? Was there a specific moment or incident that the blinkers fell off?

It's something I don't see discussed that often, well, not as often as earlier interviews with Lennon praising the man to the skies. Always ironic, especially when I think of the kind of Beatle fan who treats the Jann Wenner 1970 Rolling Stone interview as if it were scripture.

Virtually the only thing I know is that their relationship started to cool when Klein sided with George over John proposing that Yoko should perform at the Concert For Bangladesh.

Maybe some more of our learned scholars can throw some more light on the subject.

I thought, like the Maharishi, Lennon became dis-enchanted when he started to become more aware of Mr. Kleins intentions on the contractual level. Memory is a blur to which book I got that from.

He did actually get them the biggest deal on the planet, at the time. Streamlined Apple, and got rid of all the hangers on. Apparently McCartney once said something like - I'm sure you're screwing me, but I can't work out how!

Klein helped Lennon and Ono with their film Imagine, and helped Harrison to organise the Concert for Bangladesh. It was here that his reputation started to unravel. Rather than prearrange matters with UNICEF, Klein waited until after the concert to approach them, leading to questions about the proceeds, and finally a US tax investigation. While a check was cut at the time, additional proceeds meant for UNICEF were frozen in an escrow account until the 1980s. Also, Klein had sided with Harrison in believing Yoko Ono should not perform at the concert, wanting Lennon to appear without her, causing Lennon to cool on Klein. (He later took out his feelings toward Klein in "Steel And Glass", which appeared on his 1974 album Walls and Bridges.)

I vaguely recall (or think I recall  ) reading somewhere that the big falling out took place around 1973, but I could be completely wrong.

Another thing, does anyone have a recent photo of Allen Klein? For such a huge, if controversial figure in 60s and 70s rock, he seems to have been a bit of a shrinking wallflower since then.

In his biography of the Beatles, "Magical Mystery Tours," Tony Bramwell says that Klein was a millionaire who forced his way in as manager, and never had any goals except making money and taking complete control.  I don't know if it's true, but Bramwell was a childhood friend of the Beatles and an employee of theirs since their early days.
