Did you notice how the girls, who were good friends, were dressed exactly alike?  There was lots of that going around back then.   :)

My former guitar teacher was at this concert when she was 13! She won tickets.

I’ll bet there was a lot of screaming and jumping up and down when she won those tickets, not to mention when she got to Shea! My cousin told me that one of her classmates got to go and for weeks she went around talking with a British accent. It really drove everyone nuts. LOL

Yeah, Shea Stadium was rocking!  Me and my friends jumped onto The Subway Special To The World's Fair (the 7 train) without paying any 15 cents...

Then we snuck under the fence near the lake just like we always did when we went to The World's Fair but this time we headed over to Shea Stadium and got as far as the gate to the parking lot.  That was close enough for us.

I see they took down the Shea concert video I posted.  I hope y'all downloaded it...and saved 15 cents.  ;)

You guys ignored the “Just pay 15 cents” part and skipped right to “hop aboard”.  ha2ha
I didn’t know you were at Shea that day. And you didn’t even try to sneak in!

Hopping aboard subways and getting into the World's Fair was easy, Kelley.  There was no possible way to get into Shea Stadium that night.  Police were everywhere.  Getting near the parking lot was a feat and we were satisfied with that.

We did the same thing when The Mets were playing at Shea.  If we had nothing better to do, we hopped the train and went to Shea Stadium.  After the sixth inning you could get in for free.

So could you hear the screaming over there by the parking lot gate?

Yeah.  Loud and clear.  After a bit of that, we hopped aboard one of the spanking new picture window Subway Special cars and went home.

I missed the 1966 Shea Concert.  That summer I was a camp waiter contending with twenty-four 14 and 15 year old girls.  They told me it would be the most difficult assignment when I got to camp.  They were right.

Actually they were quietly mischievous.  Most of the time I was able to stay one step ahead of them.  All those years of living out Tom Sawyer came in handy.

That’s a nice way to put it. I was afraid you had to put up with a lot of giggling and general loudness. We had a bunch like that in the library a few years ago. I kept reminding myself what my best friend and I were like at that age. Then a new one showed up and the giggling became the least of our problems!

Ten Years After, the spanking new picture window Subway Special cars looked like this...

Haha, she told me that her parents let her go on the condition that she didn't scream during the concert! They thought all the screaming and yelling was silly. So she enjoyed the concert, but no screaming!

Wow, that’s a lot of self control for a 13 year old!

Girls were either screaming, crying, catatonic or syncopal...

Except this young girl who made a "John Face" at John...
