Marmalade didn't hang about. Releasing Ob la di ob la da in 1968.

Joe Cocker was slower off the mark. His number 1, WALHFMF being released the year after Sgt Pepper.

Surprised The Beatles allowed this. Also surprised there was not more artists that released Beatles album tracks as singles. A number 1 in the 60's was a big deal.

Yes, it was a very big deal in the 60s.  Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66's cover of The Fool on the Hill held the number 1 position on The Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart for six weeks in 1968...

What is humbling to me is the realization that I could never write a single song that compared to either Maxwell or Ob-la-di.

I guess I "like" Ob more than Maxwell but that's not saying much.  I'm not going to lay the needle on either one but if it's on a playlist, I'll probably listen because I don't usually turn off playlists until I'm on to doing something else.

I was at MetLife Stadium on 7 August 2016 for Paul's One On One Tour.  Everybody rose to their feet when they played Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da...
