Shea's Closing Down
« on: April 16, 2008, 07:21:58 PM »

I just read that the famous Shea Stadium will close down this summer. Billy Joel will be the last artist to play live in the stadium in July this year. The Beatles played here twice, in '65 and '66.

it's not right that they are going to tear it down, it's an historical landmark.
i wish that they could have saved it, but in july it will be torn.
it's a very nice looking stadium, iv'e seen some recent photos and it looks ok.
it will forever live on in the beatles at shea stadium  movie.
i wish they would officially release that.

I thought the pope was doing mass at Yankee Stadium. It's always Yankee Stadium. Nobody wants to go out to Queens! They're going to rebuild Shea. They did the same thing with Yankee Stadium a while back. They moved locations. I guess Shea is pretty old. I went there a lot as a kid cuz my dad was a huge Mets fan. Can't believe it's gonna be torn up! It's historical! Oh well. We don't value our history over here.

Oh, and I think this pope is German. There hasn't been an Italian pope for a while now!

wherever the pope speaks, i hope they don't don't play john's new york city song.
there's a line that may offend him, "sittin on the corner just me and yoko ono, we were waiting for her album to land".
lol.

Our current Pope is German.  There was an Italian pope for 455 years until John Paul II.

That's sad they are tearing it down though. So many memories.  Even the Yankee's are getting a new stadium.

I wonder when they are planning on doing it. I will be in NYC for the last 2 weeks in August....
Would be nice to see it one more time before it goes.   I might be too late though if the last show is in July.

I remember when Pope John Paul was chosen. A lot of controversy. A Polish pope! Oh no! I can't remember the guy before him. Too bad George isn't a Catholic name. It would be cool to have a Pope John Paul George.

I don't know why I thought the Yankees moved already. At least it's just across the street. It was almost in New Jersey! Ah! They wouldn't have been the Bronx Bombers anymore!

I wonder where the Mets are moving. I wonder if they'll do the new stadium in orange like Shea. Won't be the same though. They did this with the Garden too! What's with all the moving??

Yeah? I didn't know that. I don't keep up with the goings on in San Francisco. South Park nailed it in Smug Alert.
