Children's Bayer Aspirin Commercial (1963)

That's exactly what Mom used to give me! It tasted a lot better than that banana flavored liquid stuff.

Yes, I can imagine, Barry.  ;)

I used to fake-sick all the time, especially junior and senior years. Then I'd laze around on the couch all day watching game shows. "Press Your Luck" was a particular favorite of mine.  ha2ha

I'd go crazy if I stayed at home and watched TV, Kathleen.  When I went to elementary school, the only thing on during school hours was a bunch of soap operas.  The good stuff came on after school like Soupy Sales...

Where is all that snow of yours going Dave? It's bad enough here right now! But I'll still take the temps. That record-breaking cold last Friday almost did me in.

We're supposed to get in the 60s today, low 70s on Sunday. The kids are thrilled. I can't forget, though, that in April 2013 we got 18 inches of snow in one day.  ;)

Sad to see Soupy relegated to The Match Game.  I remember when was suspended for a week for a show he did on New Years Day 1965.  He figured the kids' parents were all hung over and not watching.  He told the kids to go to daddy's wallets and mom's pocketbooks and take out all the green pieces of paper with pictures of guys with beards and mail them to him.  He then showed a sign with his mailing address at WNEW TV...

We were lucky to have Soupy Sales, Sandy Becker and Sonny Fox doing live TV shows when we were kids.  Sadly, they never taped them and we can't see them today.

Sandy Becker lived a few blocks away.  I would often see him walking his dog Shotsy and say hi to him and pet the dog.  He sometimes had Shotsy on his show.  I remember when he had The Shangri-Las on his show and they sang Leader Of The Pack.  They were local talent too and he helped give them their start.

Yes, I see.  ;)

Some of those people on Match Game were pretty obnoxious but I liked Soupy. I knew he had a show in the 50's but I didn't realize it was a kids' show. Sandy Becker's show sounds very intriguing. It really is a shame we can't see them. I've always found the subject of local children's programming interesting, from the time I realized that my Romper Room from Johnstown, PA was just one of many. There was no preschool where I lived so I loved that show. I stood in line for a long time to see Miss Patti at our local department store but when I finally reached the head of the line I took one look at her and started bawling my head off. I remember it vividly. My mom hustled me out of there and I never did get my autographed picture. It's too bad because I can't seem to find any of her online. I remember watching shows from NYC too like "Magic Garden" and "Joya's Fun School". I thought NYC must be a magical place!

Soupy Sales aimed his show at young teens and still a lot of his jokes flew over our heads.  He really pushed the envelope.

Sandy Becker was a veteran radio and TV show personality.  His 1960s shows were brilliant and were aimed aimed at young teens too.  He played multiple characters like Hambone, Dr. Gesundheit, Norton Nork, Big Professor and K. Lastima.  And he interacted with a bunch of puppet characters too.  He ran old cartoons and featured many guest music groups.  He had a good way with kids and didn't mind when we detained him with lots of questions about his show when he was walking Shotsy.

I do remember The Magic Garden.  I was in college by then but I was dating a girl who looked a lot like Carole Demas...

Interesting! I wouldn't have guessed that was her. Nice to see the old show again. Now I just have to find ZOOM!...that's what was around when I was a preteen.

I cannot believe it's snowing here in western New York...again. But at least it won't be enough to make the driveway terrifying.
