The world from my window...
So, we're on the edge of town, where farm country and wilderness begins. Note the monstrosity of an apartment building in the foreground and imagine them packed together, block after block as you get closer to the city center. The 'burbs, East German style.
But we're as out-of-town as you can get while technically remaining in-town, and we call this our million dollar view. The details aren't clear in the photo, but there's all that farm activity and unspoiled nature spots to take in. We really appreciate that. Great biking trails just spitting distance away as well.
The best thing in this photo is that giant blue arrow floating in the sky. OK, there's not really a giant blue arrow floating there, it's a Photoshop trick. Us tricky East Germans. But what the arrow is pointing to is a castle atop yonder hilltop, Schloss Leuchtenburg. Again, too bad you don't get the details as well in the photo. It's much clearer to the naked eye. Here's what the place is like...
We've been over there a couple of times. We once attempted climbing the hill "the hard way" up a very steep, thickly forested slope with the most tenuous of switchback hiking trails etched into the mountainside. We had to pass our bikes up to one another when the trail got too thin to walk them. Ridiculously risky; we were lucky to have gotten up there without incurring massive contusions, fractures or lacerations. The scene along the way was breathtaking. I wish I'd taken pictures. What's the idea anyway of putting a castle up on top of some hill? Rough on the tourists.
The multi-color lights at night make it look like a big Christmas tree in the distance. It's a strangely comforting landmark for us. We're such goofs.
