George's Best Solo's
« on: December 20, 2021, 12:48:28 AM »

There's a few I really love.

Let It Be (The album version)
Something

are the two that immediately spring to mind. I'll think about others  ;)

George's solos were short but always to the point.  My favorite is...

A Hard Days Night
I'm Only Sleeping
Till There Was You
And I Love Her
Old Brown Shoe
Help
Nowhere Man
Savoy Truffle
I Saw Her Standing There
All My Loving
I Wanna Be Your Man
Strawberry Fields Forever
I Dont Want To Spoil The Party
Fixing A Hole

.

I think John did the solo on You Can’t Do That but don’t quote me.

All the ones mentioned are good choices.

Maybe not a solo but I like his licks during the end of the Abbey Road medley (after the three way guitar duel)

Actually his guitar work and solo on Octopuses Garden are great too.

One thing about George is that his guitar playing kept evolving and developing well past the Beatle years and right up to the last. While we’re concentrating on his Beatle years, Any Road off his last album has some terrific slide guitar all the way through it.

I'm going to sound embarrassingly ignorant here, but how can you all tell by listening it was George who was playing a particular solo?  icon_redface

Style Kath.  Johns leads were somewhat simple, sloppy for the most part, and somewhat distorted in my opinion.  George was usually a bit more technical and a cleaner player.  Paul is somewhere in between and throws a monkey wrench into the equation.

You know Kev, there's always been a debate as to who played the solo on 'Every Little Thing' (John or George).  I personally think its George, but I have no proof to back up my opinion.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on 'You Cant Do That' though.  I never cared for that solo.

I might even take on the project of listing the solo players for each song but I dont know if I have the energy for such a daunting task at this point.

I assumed it was George because it sounds like his 12 string. The final arpeggio run sounds like a George move too. But it's only my assumption.

John also loved those bent double stops. If I hear those in a Beatles song I usually assume it's John doing them.
