Just learned that one of my friends who I went to high school with died in a car accident last night  :'( She was 20.

Soooo sorry, Paul. Hope you're okay. :(

Two of my HS classmates died this year. I didn't know them very well, but two is far too many...even one is too many to lose at such a young age.

I can't even imagine what her family is going through, especially her mom. Natalie was on the phone with her mom at the time when a semi went into her lane and hit her.

We're doing a black history presentation with the kids next month and had to come up with some songs. NOT ONE of my co-workers got the significance of Blowin' in the Wind to the Civil Rights Movement. NOT ONE!!!!  What's wrong with people? We're doing it anyway though cuz I educated all of them. And now they just feel like idiots. Which they should! Sheesh! Read a book sometime or something. People's lack of general knowledge anymore is just scary.

Wow, Sondra, I can't believe that. That's just.. that is really sad. Especially considering Bob and Joan actually performed that song at MLK's March On Washington.

I couldn't find a video of it but here's a video of them singing another song.

Sondra, you can also teach them "Black And White," by Three Dog Night.  It was a very early civil rights song written in 1954 by David I. Arkin and Earl Robinson.  The song was inspired by the United States Supreme Court decision of Brown vs. Board of Education that outlawed racial segregation of public schools.

And, of course, there's "Black Or White" (Michael Jackson).

There is a page devoted to world famous people in a school textbook, published by Longman (British) and designed for Russian 14 year-old schoolchildren. One of the celebrities on the page is John Lennon and there is a text devoted to him. It is good that children learn about him at a rather young age.  :)
