Probably because the media and the left blame him for everything.  At the start of this whole thing he placed a travel ban on incoming people and the left called him xenophobic.  He relented on the ban and the left blamed him for letting people into the country.  No matter what he does, the story will be twisted to make him look bad.  The country has been in a strange state of mind for awhile now.  As I said before, Trump didnt cause the division in the country, the division caused Trump.

Precisely!

Once upon a time people in Europe thought of America as brothers and allies.

Dont let the actions of our government paint the people in a different light Cor.  Trump is trying to make the country more self reliant and unfortunately hes a bull in a china shop when doing so.  I feel privileged to be able to call so many on this board my friends that live in other countries.

I'll be off for a while. Not much happening here besides the picture game. I must admit I currently don't have the ideas to open up a real Beatles related topic.

The news has been so unpleasant for so long now that I was thrilled to find an article on Rod Serling: https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rod-serling-the-twilight-zone-anne-serling

For some reason, comments are not enabled on the article, so I can't rhapsodize about him.  ;)

You can rhapsodize about him here, Kathleen.

I learned a bit about him in the 1960s as he, like me, campaigned for Senator Eugene McCarthy when he was seeking the Democrat Party nomination for President candidacy in the 1968 election.  He was candid about his personal life and military experience.  I understood his reasons for wanting to join the army during World War II and how his feelings about war changed after his military service.

I couldn't help but notice today's member birthdays: GroovinUpSlowly (30), CleanOldMan (31), McCartney (31), SemolinaPilchard (32)

Four great screen names, huh?

You can rhapsodize about him here, Kathleen.

I read on the Twilight Zone Cafe that while Serling was still enlisted he and a group of his men were sitting in a shady grove listening to his CO. A large parcel (food, I think) that had been strung up in the trees suddenly snapped free and fell, striking the CO and decapitating him in front of the horrified group. That alone -- not to mention actual war experience -- would be traumatizing.

I reluctantly abandoned the Twilight Zone Cafe because one of its members was virulently anti-Catholic and would never (over the course of months) let the matter drop, and the moderator didn't do a thing. But that anecdote came from a respected member, so I'm inclined to believe it.

I have been searching for the Pattie Boyd Breck girl ad but the closest thing I could find was this, from MAD Magazine in 1964. Poor Ringo!

Blecch ?!?  That really isn’t a good name for a shampoo.

I think MAD Magazine invented that word!

Thanks, Cor but what I’m looking for is a shampoo ad. Breck shampoo had a very long ad campaign where they used portraits of various “Breck Girls”. Most of them weren’t photographs but pastel portraits done by a couple of different artists. They became iconic in the 30 some years of their existence. I saw Patti Boyd listed as a 1965 Breck Girl and even though it’s spelled wrong I assumed it was our Pattie. Now I’m doubting the accuracy of that because I have looked at a lot of Breck Girl pictures and found no sign of any Patty/Pattie Boyd. I also think now that all of them were American girls. Some were up and coming models and Junior Miss Pageant winners, but for many years they were Breck employees or family members of employees. Here’s an example from 1965:

Like a young Cybill Shepherd in 1969...

The Smithsonian Archives Center, National Museum of American History doesn't list Pattie Boyd as a Breck Girl:  Smithsonian Guide to the Breck Girls Collection

But she was in a Dop by L'Oreal Shampoo commercial...

Cybill Shepherd looked great as a Kodak Girl in 1971...

Remembering what happened 19 years ago today.   :(

 :'(

To this day, I remember the powerful, moving column that Leonard J. Pitts Jr. wrote on 9/11. I don't agree with Pitts's politics at all, but he's smart and writes well, so fotunately I stumbled across it when I otherwise may not have. That column has stuck with me all these years, so yesterday I dug it up and sent it to my daughters (who I'm not sure appreciated it; they were 3 and 4 on 9/11).
