Oh, I was not thinking only about that period but about all the songs he wrote in the 60s :B ...
... but talking about Abbey Road alternate tracklists: one thing I've always wonder it's why he decided to give away Come And Get It when he knew the others didn't want Maxwell's Silver Hammer as a single ??) ... they have said that they already knew they were making a great album by then so, why not to improve it?...
I'm sure that he would have had "a chance" with Come And Get It (he said to the then-called The Iveys that it was going to be define-telly a great hit) ... and I don't understand why some people say that it wouldn't have fitted, after all, we have several styles and 'productions' in the album: Come Together and I Want You (She's So Heavy) are not very far from Come And Get It
...
And if they were re-recording songs from their Get Back project period why not some other's Paul's songs like Another Day or some others? ... but if he decided to record Maxwell's Silver Hammer, I'm sure that he liked it a lot ... I don't think he would regret writing it ... possibly some of the ones they gave away in early 60s to others artists (if there would be any) :-/...
Fin
alley, I've to say that I like Maxwell's Silver Hammer (John's version is amu-sing
) ... and, of course, I love Octopus's Garden but I'm glad if people don't like it so much, it's funny!
