Wings Cover Band
« on: February 13, 2008, 05:53:03 AM »

So I'm starting a Wings cover band and I already have 2 people on board right now. A lead singer who is willing to play Rhythm guitar or Keyboards and a drummer. My plan was to kind of cover the 1976 Rockshow concert but I talked to my boss at work today and he told me that he could get me a gig but that it wasn't a good idea only to do Wings songs. He said that if he got me the gig that I better plan to play all night. So I thought that the Rockshow concert won't cover about 3 or 4 hours. So I'm thinking I could start the gig with the beginning part of The Rockshow concert and have a middle bit with a bunch of 70s classics and standards and then end the show with the last part of the Rockshow concert. So here is what I had in mind....

1.Venus and Mars
2.Rockshow
3.Jet
4.Let Me Roll It
5.Spirits of Ancient Egypt
6.Medicine Jar
(Then a bunch of 70s classic rock classics and standards)
7.Time To Hide
8.Silly Love Songs(Maybe...)
9.Beware My Love
10.Letting Go
11.Band On The Run
12.Hi Hi Hi
13.Soily

So thats pretty much how the set list will be setup. For all the people out there, do you think this is a good idea and do you think that this would work? Also, could you guys recommend some 70s classic rock songs that would go well for the gig?

Great idea man! I think it'd def work. Don't forget to record it. =]

As for 70's songs.. how about some Queen? Thin Lizzy? Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young? Led Zeppelin? Pink Floyd? the Stones? the Who?

Well, the lead singer/rhythm guitarist dropped out of the band a few days ago to join another band that was already on their feet. It was a real blow to the morale but we'll just have to carry on without him. I'm bringing in a new guy who plays Rhythm guitar and he agreed to join up with us. So we're going to meet up and do some rehearshing for the first time later this week. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Hehe the drummer Scott actually asked me that, I don't think it would be too popular here in south florida. Since we're going to be playing at a bar, we want to keep the energy going with their more rockin tunes. We might do Mull of Kinytre though if everyone wants to.

I actually pushed back the rehersals because a lead guitarist and Sax player are going to join up with us. so I'm going to give them a little time to learn the first four songs on the setlist. Right now we have a Bass Player(Me), Lead Guitarist, Rhythm Guitarist, Drummer, and a sax player. All we're missing is a lead singer, key boardist and maybe another sax player. Hopefully I'll find those pieces of the puzzle soon.

^ Hope it works out! I'd join if I knew how to play the guitar and lived close by.  ;D
