Hang On Sloopy   The lost verse...

https://youtu.be/TlTKhPkZSJo

Sloopy wears a red dress, yeah, as old as the hills
But when Sloopy wears that red dress, yeah
You know it gives me the chills, oh, oh

Sloopy when I see you walkin’, walkin’ down the street
I say Don’t worry Sloopy girl, you belong to me
And so I sing out...

Over The Rainbow

I can't believe Eric Clapton covers this song, which I have always detested. This is why I stick to his earlier stuff.

Eric Clapton pulled out his old L-5CESN with Alnico-V pickups and showed just how versatile he is.

The song's lyricist was once my patient.

Wow, Barry. You’ve crossed paths with a lot of prominent people from the world of music during your career. Edgar, Frank, Peter and even John.

I loved to sing Edgar’s song while making my rope swing go as high as I could. That was a looong time ago. I’d get sick if I tried that now.  ;D

Well, the hospital where I did my residency training was Mount Sinai which attracted many celebrities.  It's across Fifth Avenue from Central Park so we often took our lunch break in the park.  We were bound to see John Lennon.  And we did.  The others were patients.

I treated Edgar Harburg in the ER one evening.  I didn't know who he was until after I discharged him.  The RN I gave his completed chart to told me who he was.  On follow-up the next day, I was acting starstruck and fumbling around.  I apologized by saying "I'm sorry I didn't recognize you last night, Mr. Harburg."  "I'm glad you dudn't, doctor," he replied.  "And you can call me Yip," he added.

What a lovely instrument.

Thanks, Moog.  I bought it in 1972 while I was taking blues guitar lessons.  My teacher had an L-5CES...

...and I wanted to buy a used one for myself but the L-5 at that time had a thin "jazz neck" which felt a bit uncomfortable.  The shop had the Switchmaster which had a standard neck which felt just right.  It was in beautiful shape for a 13 year old guitar and still looks the same today.  I paid $750 for the guitar.

Gibson made the Switchmaster in very small numbers over its seven or eight years of production; less than 50 per year.  My 1959 ES-5 has the "Patent Applied For" Humbucking pick ups.  The guitar has appreciated considerably in value over the years.  Its tonal range is impressive with that four position pick up selector switch and three pairs of volume and tone knobs.  It was marketed as a jazz guitar and was owned by a member of The Johnny Carson Show band prior to me.

It's amazing how Steve Howe made his Switchmaster sound in that video!
