I’m so glad! For years my kids have been telling me that I don’t hear well because they ask me things when I’m in the kitchen and they aren’t. I’m either running water or the vent fan is on. Or they yell down into the basement when I’m doing laundry and expect me to hear over the washer. I’m vindicated!

I remember hearing You Can Call Me Al on the radio for the first time when I was driving for work in the bush. My driving companion and I both cracked up at the first line, thinking what on earth is this song. Boy it was catchy though. Grew on me very quickly.

My brother had a way of showing up when you needed him and that time was no exception. He was wearing a baseball cap, as usual, and this particular one had the letters "AL" on it. I said "I guess we can call you Al". He looked puzzled until I gestured at his cap then he threw his head back and laughed. I love remembering him that way. Now, it was just a few years ago that I realized that our mom's name, Betty, was in the song. I thought it was Eddie until I finally heard it with headphones.
