Joan Bennett was good in her screen test but she made a better film noir femme fatale...

No more mules in horse harnesses.  ;)

Waa! I don’t see it on our AMC ‘s website. It’s probably coming everywhere except here in the boonies. I’ve never seen it on a big screen. But I’m glad you have it to look forward to.  :)

It might be "hidden." My daughter couldn't find it on the AMC website for Grand Forks; it was under a section called "Fathom
Entertainment." I found it for her. If it's playing up here in desolate NoDak, I'm sure it must be somewhere near you within driveable distance. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for that info, Kathy. Unfortunately, the closest showings are in the Buffalo area. I doubt that anyone would want to go with me, anyway. Four hours is a long time.

It's not quite that bad, But the large road make traveling here a cinch -- unless there are blowng snow and high winds. When my alternaor conked out last Thanksgiving I was literally at the edge of a field of cattle. Such fun!

"Mammy's a smart old soul and one of the few people I know whose respect I'd like to have."   Rhett Butler

Yes, Kathleen, a pivotal point in the movie is when wise and devoted Mammy finally did respect Rhett Butler.

"It seems we've been at cross purposes, but it doesn't matter now."   Rhett Butler

The movie was an endless series of cross purposes.  Though the novel and movie hinted at a sequel, I'm happy that Margaret Mitchell never wrote one.  What ultimately happened to Scarlett and Rhett will be speculated upon for eternity.

Kelley, it's worth the drive to see Gone With The Wind on the big screen.  The first time I ever did was in 1975 at The Loew's Paradise Theatre in The Bronx on a BIG screen.  As Kathleen said, it's much more fun with a crowd.

Margaret Mitchell didn’t but Alexandra Ripley did. It came out in 1991, was called Scarlett and it was awful.

I understand there was a Scarlett TV mini-series too.  I presume that was bad also.

Okay, I just read the plot summary of Alexandra Ripley's Scarlett.  It looks like it was 900 pages of trash.  I bet the TV adaptation was no better.

Rhett was a strong character.  Scarlett was young and foolish when they met but the Civil War and plantation hardships caused her to mature into a strong character herself with but one flaw which she finally rid herself of the day Melanie died.  It was another cross-purpose moment in a whole series of such moments.  I prefer to hold onto the ending we've all come to know...

She always managed to regain her strength and will at Tara.

I read it, too, Kelley. Awful is indeed an adequate descriptor!

I know, Barry.  ;D

One of the things that made me laugh in the book, although I don't believe it was in the movie, was when Rhett suggested to Scarlett that she name her store "Caveat Emptorium," and she didn't know what it meant for a short time.  ha2ha

That would have been a great scene if it were put in the movie as written!  And that goes for a lot that appeared in the novel but it would have made a very long movie even longer.

Enjoy the movie again on the big screen, Kathleen.  It really is the only way to see it.  ;)

You make a good point. I was disappointed they wrote Archie out, though.

UGH, are you referring to Ashley? He was the one character I detested. What a wimp!
