All Those Years Ago
« on: May 19, 2004, 09:47:19 PM »

I think All Those Years Ago is one of the " worst songs " by George as a solo artist even though it was " popular at the time " because it was soon after the death of his former bandmate John while the lyrics were heartfelt it's not as good as My Sweet Lord & Crackerbox Palace " which goes without saying " but ATYA is a mediocre single from a mediocre album Somewhere In England!

Whats up with your posting your least favorite song of each artist in the exact same format in every solo forum?

Plus being worse than my sweet lord and crackerbox palace hardly wouldn't make it one of the worst songs he made, thinking you only listed two...

All Those Years Ago is a good song despite being " mostly mediocre " by George as a solo artist because My Sweet Lord & Crackerbox Palace are a " whole lot better " as solo classics.

We ALL know it's "JUST his OPINION" (rendering it practically valueless) yet he doesn't seem to have a clue.

What is "  it " about the Beatles & as solo artists I don't have a clue about anyway?  I know it's " only " my opinion, just like the " rest of you " clowns.

I think the problem with All Those Years Ago is this:

It's a good poppy tune, well played; however, it is also supposed to be a song about John Lennon. For many listeners, the expected mood of the song clashes with the poppy presentation.

As an ode to John, it doesn't quite work. In fact, none of the Beatles' efforts to sing about their dead bandmates quite works.

Well ATYA wasn't written for John in the first place (as you undoubtedly know), it had different lyrics.  He modified it to be for John, but yeah, it is way too upbeat.

I wouldn't doubt it if most of you first heard of the Beatles from the Anthology series & CD's anyway?  If all of you want to twist my words around as in my constructive criticism of All Those Years Ago into something disturbing (which it's not) & call me names to make some of you so called Beatles fans look cool for some reason. I dont care at all because I'm not that stupid like some of you seem to be.

I do apologize for the names.  It is immature of me.  Nevertheless you want to blame everyone else other than yourself for the silly things you say.  You seem to want to pick a fight with everyone and anyone.

You are entitled to your opinion.  Why not try offering it without knocking everyone else's down?

All Those Years Ago isn't that a great a solo classic from George unlike My Sweet Lord & Crackerbox Palace over 20 years later even though he meant well as a tribute song to John from his former bandmate soon after his death which is why it was so popular back in 81 but ATYA is just a mediocre single from a mediocre album Somewhere In England in hindsight!

I happen to like this song as well. And no, I didn't hear about the Beatles from the Anthology series. I was listening to them well before the Anthology came out. I don't see what liking this song has got anything to do with when we started listening to the Beatles.
