Woodwind, Brass, Cello
« on: November 08, 2007, 02:44:56 AM »

Good evening all,

I wonder, did George Martin ever created a role for a woodwind instrument in any Beatles song?

What other brass instruments have been used, other than a French Horn?

What roles were written for Cello (I know there are but I can't recall in what songs)?

Thanks  :)

I think a clarinet is prominently featured in 'When I'm Sixty-Four'.

Lots of sax, which I think is a brass (woodwind?) - Lady Madonna, and some George songs.

Cello - I'm gonna guess Strawberry Fields, I am the Egg Man.

Brass is Sax, trumpet, cornet etc. Flutes and oboes are woodwind.

Uh-oh. I've always heard sax classed with woodwind, because it uses a reed.

Actually, you're right. Sax is classed as a woodwind instrument.

..and Rolling Stone Brian Jones did the sax solo on "You Know My Name(Look Up The Number)"

But he got annoyed when he heard that they buried the sax solo
in the mix & the beatles were doing the mouth brass.

That part always sounded like 4 kazoos to me (sort of like wax paper on a comb, then humming, for those that didn't grow up with that word).
