He'll be missed.

His breakthrough record was Rubber Ball...

Intentionally sounding like Buddy Holly there.

Heard on the radio that Bobby was put into a tough spot when Buddy Holly and the other guys died in the crash.  He was called on to perform in their stead.  He was 15 at the time if I heard correctly (did not bother to look it up).

RIP Bobby

Yeah, Todd.  He was only fifteen.

Bobby Vee loved Buddy Holly...

Just read that he volunteered for the Holly gig so I was a bit wrong on my initial statement.

Thanks for the videos. I was never a fan of Bobby Vee but the links to the Beatles and Dylan make him special.

Thanks for the videos.

Yes, many thanks for posting those, Barry. Not being a huge Bobby Vee fan, I didn't realize that he sang some of those songs (e.g., The Night Has a Thousand Eyes, Come Back When You Grow Up), which are some of my top oldies favorites. I guess I was a bigger fan than I even realized. Time to update my Napster queue.

RIP Bobby  :'(

Me too. I knew most of his songs and I might have been able to say they were his but not always with certainty. I definitely didn't know Come Back When You Grow was his. I found that out just a few weeks ago as a matter of fact. I was surprised that he had a hit as late as 1966 and I realized then that I really didn't know much of anything about him. Take Good Care of My Baby was one of the first "old" songs that I really liked when I was a kid. I remember hearing it when I was on the way to school while riding in the backseat of our Ford Pinto. (That was a risky thing to be doing as it turned out.) And I'm sure I was probably late that day because I always was when I rode with my brother and his friend. That's part of the reason I had a very tenuous relationship with my 4th grade teacher. LOL

And I can remember another of Bobby Vee's hits from 1960.  Just before he released Rubber Ball, he covered this 1956 Clovers song...

Fond memories, Kelley!  :)  My first car had only a radio with AM stations, which meant (at the time) only talk radio or one oldies station, so oldies it was, and I soon got addicted.

I feel almost guilty that I've enjoyed so many Bobby Vee songs for so long and never recognized him as the artist.

I love that song! I used to play that same version in the car and tease my daughters that it was about them as toddlers.  ha2ha
