Im not too good at reviews
today's about celebrating some of the most amazing songs ever written, and, with the help of The Living End's Chris Cheney, Grinspoon's Phil Jamieson, Tim Rogers of You Am I and Josh Pyke, celebrate we do.
OK there were 4 guys and a huge backing group inc strings & brass
The 4 guys were not imitating J,P,G & R as per regular tribute bands
How it worked was the big band was constantly onstage and the 4 guys too turns to come on and sing a track, not dressed in any way like Beatles, really as themselves. Sometimes all 4 were onstage.
I thought 2 of the guys were way better than the other two Josh Pyke & Chris Cheney are very good, better than the other two
Tim Rogers and Jamieson struggled with Lennons Dear Prudence, Warm Gun, Yer Blues and Im So Tired, his voice didnt have the power that John puts out towards the end of the songs
Cheney did the McCartney Rockers very well, thats him on the vid I posted.
The band was excellent, with superb sounding guitars throughout (No Fenders, all Gibsons I think)
They did it track for track and I really enjoyed it except for the weakish vocals on the Lennon tracks, there was some humour by Rogers throughout but he sang Goodnight pretty much off key at times.
They did an encore which was A Day In The Life which I though was superb
Heres a review I thought pretty accurate;
