Love the song. I wonder, when it was written though in 1966, jet travel would have been very exclusive. Was this the equivalent today of a rapper doing a song about  leaving in a Lear jet?

Jet travel was quite ubiquitous in 1966.  By that year, i had already made a trans-Atlantic round-trip jet flight and several continental jet flights.  Turboprop aircraft were quickly being retired and scrapped by the mid-60s.

Well, maybe not the equivalent of Lear jet travel today then.

Although I would stand by the fact that air travel was, relatively, a lot more expensive than today. So unlike the hero’s girlfriend In Boots of Spanish Leather who was sailing away, a much more backpackerish  adventurous type of thing to do, this guy was going all modern and expensive.    ;D

Hello:  I meant "ordinary" because he didn't write any more good songs later in his career.  Unless he did and I missed 'em.

So, if he loved Annie so much, why did he divorce her???  I've often wondered how he wrote such a beautiful love song about her and then, divorce.  Huh?
