Hey Kathy!  You're probably familiar with this young fellow's YouTube channel.  Sam a walking encyclopedia about the Titanic...

It looks like he's researched the subject matter thoroughly.

^^^^

Thanks so much for sharing those, Barry! I have not in fact heard of this young man. I shouldn't say this, but I question his knowledge level right off the bat given that he identified Titanic "in full" as Royal Mail Ship Titanic. It was in fact Royal Mail Steamship Titanic. The title is quite important given the hoops through which a vessel had to jump to obtain that qualification. Also, I question whether, in one of his previews, Jack Phillips and Harold Bride were the "heroes" of Titanic.  ;)  Well all know the true hero was Bruce Ismay. (I'm KIDDING!  ha2ha )

But it's great that he's getting stuff out there and educating people. I'll have to watch the clips tomorrow as my day is coming to an end right now.

All of his videos are quite informative.  He's done some live streaming too.

He explains the role the "cold water mirage" played in helping the Carpathia locate the Titanic survivors...

That was a quote from the Encyclopedia Britannica that appeared in the video description.  In the video, he refers to the Titanic as either "Titanic" or "RMS Titanic."

I've always loved this song. I had no idea Paul was in the video (~ the 2:35 mark), probably because I haven't seen the video in more than 25 years and it predates my Beatles fandom:

I wanted to get away from watching ships sinking so I just watched The D'oyly Carte Opera Company's 1973 production of Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore; or, The Lass That Loved a Sailor...

In 1984 I was 16. What I wouldn't give to have those days—and my 16-year-old figure—back.  :)

More of Sam's videos about The Titanic, The Lusitania, and The Britannic, Kathy.  He goes into minute detail and always has models of those ships to demonstrate what he is explaining.

It was fun watching HMS Pinafore (again) which stayed afloat!   ;D

One of my favorite songs in the D'oyly Carte Opera Company's production is "Never Mind the Why and Wherefore..."

It's amusing to see how other opera companies give their rendition like Australia's Essgee Company's production...

For the Lusitania you're better off with Eric Sauder, who's been studying it for longer than Sam has been alive. He's dived on the wreck and is basically the go-to historian for it.

He's also a Gilbert & Sullivan fan.  ;)

I wanted to see what Sam said was the cause of The Britannic's demise.  I always thought the ship was torpedoed by a U-boat but I found out it had struck a mine.

Still, young Same narrated the history of The Britannic and its sister ships replete with model ships which he held up at the required times.  I hope he has interests other than sinking ships.

How do you know that Eric Sauder is a Gilbert & Sullivan fan?

How do you know that Eric Sauder is a Gilbert & Sullivan fan?

I knew him for years through the ocean liner forums. We communicated privately for years online and over the phone. Same with his brother Bill, who's a Titanic expert. They're both wonderful, down-to-earth people. I lost touch with both of them after we moved to Nevada with yet another email change and the disorganization and distraction of moving cross-country with three kids under age 5. And then Eric moved cross-country in the opposite direction.

I also learned from Eric that Gilbert & Sullivan fans are often referred to as Savoyards. I hadn't known that.

P.S. Today is the 107th anniversary of the Lusitania's sinking.  :'(
