There's a picture of George with the Fender Jazz in Lewisohn's book. The Hofner, to this day, has the Beatles final set list taped to the top of it. I seriously doubt that the original Hofner was custom-made, he said he bought it because it was cheap and it was left-handed--it costs plenty to have anything customized and they didn't have any spare change back then. As a lefty, it sucks going into a music store because everything is right-handed, with maybe and exception here and there, I can only imagine how tough it was to find a left-handed guitar/bass was back then. The Rickenbacker was a prototype given to Paul by the family. Thanks for the info Al, very cool research project and well done.
