It's so annoying isn't it! It was the same over here though - The Beatles ONLY live appearance on Top Of The Pops was erased too! PLUS most of their BBC radio shows - thank God for bootleggers! It's funny though, when Apple were compiling the "Beatles At The BBC" album, they had to use bootlegged versions for a lot of the tracks because they didn't officially exist anymore! Bizarre!

Is that why the sound quality on some of the songs on BBC album is so bad? I hadn't heard that, but now it makes sense.

Yeah, it's especially noticable on Keep "Your Hands Off My Baby"; the only version they had was from a bootleg which fades in and thus cut's off some of the drumming in the intro - to rectify this, the track was edited so that a small section of the drum track is repeated 2 or 3 times. This makes the intro sound a bit like a drum machine!

Funnily enough, the full version of this track has been discovered now, and it's available for purchase... on a bootleg of course!

I think that show is hosted by Brian Matthews - he used to present the original Beatles BBC radio shows (notably Saturday Club and From Us To You) back in the early Sixties.

It all makes sense now. The version of 'A Hard Days Night' on "Live at the BBC" had me perplexed for awhile.

I think you're referring to the instrumental break where the EMI STUDIO version takes over, right? Well, I read that the reason it cuts in is because George Martin couldn't make the session at the BBC to add piano, so they used the EMI version instead.

Yeah, thats exactely what i'm talking about TE. I just thought it was funny at the end of the song when the guy stated that George kept playing to prove it was live and then they have that break in the middle. Its no big deal, but kind of funny.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the bit at the end - I always thought that was funny too :)

I don't understand why George Martin had to be there though - I mean, when they played the song live there was no piano, so what was the big deal? Maybe the truth is George Harrison hadn't quite yet mastered the tricky guitar solo. That is just speculation on my part though :D
