What would John Want Us To Think And Feel Now?
« on: December 09, 2005, 12:04:33 PM »

A Question Of Commemoration:

Do you think that, John would still want us to think that all we need is love to heal the world?

John had an aggressive side, but he tempered it with his beautiful songs of love and peace.

You all know my peacenik leanings, so I won't try to launch into it all again. But, I think the best way we could remember John is to have some appreciation for the message of All You Need Is Love, The Word, Give Peace A Chance, etc. Would you agree? In the days after his passing, many gathered in New York seemed to be openly espousing these sentiments, so why not now 25 years later?

On the news this am the shot they showed had the gathering singing Hey Jude!
But yes, I agree with you. I think John was very sincere in his beliefs.

Yes, but, like I said, in another thread - I think it was in spite of his character rather than because of it. What do you think? A Hard Day's Write said he (I assume) included 'I used to be cruel to my woman I'd beat her...' on Getting Better as an admission of his violent side. The book quotes John as saying 'I sincerely believe in love and peace. I am a violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence.' Candid and honest stuff.

John was certainly flawed (who isn't), but I don't think that has to sit at odds with his peace thing. People criticise him for being a hypocrite over the Imagine lyrics - but all he's saying is IMAGINE a world without possessions, not lets all go live in a cave. And he could be moody and violent, but he's not Ghandhi or Mother Theresa. He was just a guy, his demons no suprise considering everyone he loved either died or left him, with high ideals. No more a hypocrite than anyone else I know.

He said he didn't want to be considered another Ghandhi but more like a fool because of the assasinations of famous political people during the 60s.

I know Lennon was a double-edged character, and I've said it several times already, but I think he would have wanted us to remember him for the peace thing.

^You're right, he said so, he wanted us to remember him for the peace thing more than for his music. Soon you'll be able to listen to that (in my next bootleg).

"Laurel and Hardy, that's John and Yoko. And we stand a better
chance under that guise because all the serious people like
Martin Luther King and Kennedy and Gandhi got shot."
