HELP! Blue Album 1967-1970, Red Sleeve
« on: January 20, 2019, 03:32:32 PM »

Hi there everyone.

I have been trying to find out information on this album for almost 10 years now but everytime I look I come up with blanks. My dad bought a copy of the Beatles Blue album (1967-1970) almost 15 years ago and everything on the album is correct apart from the sleeve on the first record is printed in red and not blue. All of the tracks listings, lyrics and record number are correct on the red sleeve as well.

I can find no information about it online, I have contacted the record labels and heard nothing back and record experts I have spoken to have never heard of it either. Some of them said it might have just been a worker in the factory printed a red sleeve for their collection.

Like I said, it has been a mystery we have been trying to get answers to for well over 10 years now. If you could help us out with finding out the story of it then it would be amazing to know

Thanks for your help

Eric

sounds like a cool keepsake, not sure what value it would have, assume that is what you are asking.  Value is what someone would be willing to pay for it.  Throw it on Ebay for a ridiculously high reserve price and see if someone bites.

Wasnt there a book by Edgar Allen Poe called 'The Masque of the Red Death' ?

The release date/printing of that album could commemorate the anniversary of Pauls death  ???

another clue perhaps  :-\

Value is secondary right now. We are just both intrigued to the story behind it seeing as we have found no information about it for nearly 10 years now.

I've never heard of this anomaly before.

Surely there must be other copies like this, since it must have been a printer's mistake for a whole run of inner sleeves.

Is there an indication saying where the sleeve was printed?

Was it bought from a reliable source ?

A few years ago you could buy Asian knock offs of well known albums

I was in Thailand and bought the Beatles CD Box for about $20, you'd think it was genuine

I know you can pirated buy box sets from China, web sites like Ali Express very cheap and they have anomalies like this.

You would have thought that there would be but in over 10 years of hunting, no one has ever heard of it.

The only thing on the sleeve other that the LP code (PCS 7181) is at the bottom where it says "All lyrics reproduced with permission of the respected owners" and the code "G & L"

He found it in a record basket down at the market and paid a pound for it a long time ago. It is possible that it is part knock off but the actual record is is an actual Apple Records pressing so it seems strange that it may be half and half

You can never be 100% sure I guess but everything else (Vinyls, center covers, booklet) matches other copies we have bought perfectly. We have checked all the spellings, codes, images. Visually wise its identical as far as we can see at least. But yes, unless we can find an expert then we will never know for sure.

When the Chinese copy a product they copy everything, code numbers, images, all are reproduced faithfully to make it look like the genuine item.
Theres a huge problem these days with fake Gibson guitars from China, its extremely hard to tell what is a fake on the higher quality fakes.
My guess is yours is a fake, I cant think of any other reason for this anomaly ....especially if you have asked various parties/experts and they're puzzled.

I’d be more confident it was a Chinese fake if they’d changed the Chairman Mao line in the Revolution lyric sheet to something more complimentary.  ;)

I'm sure it's real, and a simple mistake from the printer shop and they just lazily put it through, nothing more.

This is not the 1st one I've seen on Ebay.

Are you sure that it's EXACTLY the same? I only ask as me and my dad have been checking everywhere, including Ebay for years now and have never seen one, and you are the first person who has ever said that they have seen one before

I'm only sure it's an anomaly, that is all. But yes I have seen before.
