« on: September 27, 2009, 01:32:18 PM »

Thought to be one of his earliest creative pieces....a 300 word essay on the monarchy.

School essay written by Paul when he was 10 years old discovered
« Reply #1 on: September 30, 2009, 02:17:16 PM »

This is pretty cool. We've seen stuff from Dylan unearthed liked this. This is now the oldest surviving McCartney creation. It's a school essay he had to write for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

Was anyone else astonished at the handwriting? People are always saying that educational standards have slipped (well, some people say they've plummeted) and looking at that time capsule of an essay is spine-tingling for me. I haven't seen another 10 yr old capable of such handwriting  -  or writing ablilty come to that.  My children regularly bring home letters from school with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes, and that's what the teachers are producing!! So All Together Now:  Bravo Paul!!  Bring back the cane, if this is the result!! (JOKE JOKE JOKE GUYS!!!)

Wow!  Very much Paul....even at that age!

I was kicked out of class so many times in third grade that I never learned how to write capital letters in script.  My caps are just printed upper case letters.  I had plenty of circles around those capitals, in red, on my essays!

This is why I would hate to be famous... pretty sure I cranked out a few embarrassing essays in my elementary school days. I wouldn't want anyone to read my essays on why 14 year old should be allowed to vote, or something like that.

Awww, this is so cool. Great handwriting too. I pride myself on neat penmanship (when I bother to write neatly, anyway), but I bet my cursive was never that pretty back during my childhood.

The standards for penmanship in America are quite low, and they're bound to go down even further due to emails and texting and all....oh, well. :(

Wow!! That is super cool! I saved it onto my computer  :P But yah we did cursive in one grade and never did it again. And we aren't even allowed to turn in papers that aren't typed anymore, it has to be printed out on the computer.

^yah I know, I learned it in 2nd grade, and then used it up until 5th grade. Now I never do. It is somewhat sad. Because I can never remember how to write all the letters anymore. I usually just write in all caps now.

I stuck to it because its a lot better then my caps or printing as we call it. When I write something down its in cursive.

"...youngsters in other parts of Britain are receiving mugs with a portrait of the Queen engraved on the china."

Waste not, want not. He'll use that phrase again sometime.

My casual handwriting has turned into an odd blend of printing and cursive...it's like my hand can't decide what it wants to do. Oy.

Yes, my mom does the EXACT same thing! It's like printing but the letters are hooked or something. They say people do that when they have scattered thoughts  ;D

His handwriting was beautiful. It was so neat and decorative, much unlike my own scrawly mess. xD

I have yet to meet a 10 year old who can write an essay at that level.

Neither have I. Then again I haven't met a 10 year old in years (41 actually), let alone one writing an essay.
It does look neat though, but no neater than I remember the girlie swats  at school having.
When I was 12 I won the Form Two Speech competion, and I'd lifted the whole thing from Readers Digest.
