I am sooooooooooo jealous Mairi! I live in one of the biggest cities in England and there isn't a single solitary 60's night to be found ANYWHERE. I hate it.

Yes, The Shangri-Las were from nearby Cambria Heights, NY It was a tough neighborhood at the time and members of the group acquired tough personae. The lead singer, Mary Weiss, is regarded as a precursor to Deborah Harry. She's only 16 in those videos!

Frank Sinatra, Jr. looks a lot like his dad too.

The studio take of Remember (Walking In The Sand) goes on for about 7 minutes. For the record and radio broadcast, the engineers faded the song out five minutes early. I guess The Shangri-Las invented the long single recording before The Beatles came up with Hey Jude.

The Shangri-Las also performed on the same bill as The Beatles during their 1964 US tour.
