According to the article, by the time the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies collide, our sun will be near the end of its life having depleted its supply of hydrogen.  It will have grown in size to a "Red Giant" and will already have a detrimental effect on Earth.  Just like Krypton, the Earth will be destroyed...

Our research suggests the Milky Way and Andromeda will begin to interact strongly about 2 billion years from now. The merger will conclude in about 5 billion years. The latter date is especially notable because it coincides with the Sun’s remaining life span. Currently, our Sun is about halfway through its projected lifetime and eventually will begin to expand. As it does, our home star will consume all of its available hydrogen and become a red giant within 5 billion years from now. In short, the Sun will be in its death throes on Milkomeda’s birthday.

The Sun’s red giant stage will make life on Earth rather uncomfortable. Indeed, it will spell the end of life as we know it. However, it does not preclude the possibility for colonization of habitable planets around nearby stars. Thus, it is possible future astronomers will be able to witness some, if not all, of the Local Group evolution we have simulated.



All this will happen a bit more than two years from now so you needn't be concerned, blmeanie.

Earthlings will have to settle for the 1,999,999,950th Anniversary Deluxe Sgt. Pepper Set, Moog, unless they develop escape rockets to get them to a habitable planet in the Milkomeda Galaxy.  If they find a planet with a yellow sun, they will have powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men.

Omigosh, I just logged on to everythingmizzou.com only to find that the owners retired on New Year's Eve after 44 years and the store is closed. I've been ordering from them for years.    If I'd known, and I had any business acumen (or even knowledge), I would have tried to persuade them to let me take over.

Although this is a minor issue overall, it seems like an inauspicious start to 2020.
