Beatle pet peeves
« on: March 23, 2010, 09:53:08 AM »

Do you have a Beatle pet peeve? A little thing about John, Paul, George or Ringo (or the group in general) that always annoys you a bit?

Mine is that when Paul sings 'The Long And Winding Road' live, he pronounces the "your" in "lead me to your door" as "yuh". I hate that.

When Paul emphasises the word "smoke" in the refrain of A Day In The Life. Yes Paul, we get it. A smoke, you crazy f*cker.

I've never been too fond of John's mocking of the handicapped.

Yeah - that definitely doesn't sit well in today's politically correct climate.
And even at the time I think it was a bit suspect - I've seen video footage of him doing that on stage and I always thought the other Beatles looked a bit embarrassed by John, Paul especially.

Yeah the mocking of the handicapped is kind of unnecessary. It don't really understand the whole "If I make fun of it I'll feel better about myself" thing that he always did. But oh well I guess.

Clap Your Hands... Stomp Your Feet

I do like his little jig at the end though. Maybe if he had just stuck with that instead?

The first time I saw that clip, I honestly felt kind of embarrassed to be a Beatles fan. Yeah, it was meant to be funny, but it was also rather cruel.

People, you are very strange in this. It is supposed to be funny. And this has always been part of humour, especially of British humour. I remember lots of episodes when comics act like cripples, for example in Benny Hill Show, in Mr. Bean series etc. And it is not making fun of cripples, it`s making fun of the comics themselves. But if you follow your line of thought, then it is inappropriate not only to act as physical cripples but also to act as mental cripples, so, please! - NO to Mr Bean!!! NO to Benny Hill, NO to any comic, because on stage they are all crazy stupid mentally-challenged disabled loose-in-the-attick guys.
Another thing - times were different!

I have a thing about Paul singing Something... especially how he did it in the Back to the USA tour. I always think he did a very nice song to John, yet for George he just sug his most famous song and Paul doesnt sing it well anyway (for my ears, at least)

I don't really understand the whole "If I make fun of it I'll feel better about myself" thing that he always did. But oh well I guess.
I think its the whole thing of when you are scared of something, one way to overcome that fear is by laughing at it?

But the Beatles were a music band, as oppose to comedians. The other three didnt like what John did either.

Even for the time I think it was kind of frowned upon. And I think there's a difference between making fun of those who are physically or mentally impaired as opposed to just plain stupid.

I'm not sure why, but in the song "You never give me your money", I kind of get annoyed when I hear the piano bit where Paul starts singing, "Out of college, money spent!". It's just the piano that annoys me, the rest of the song is fantastic.

RIngo's early songs...sorry guys...
Also I agree with all who said the mocking of the handicapped. That IS totally unnecessary, I'm not being politically correct for our 'modern times'.
Erm, some of the clothes were a bit ... red shoes??? those beards???? That awkward bit where the hair had got long but not quite long enough.
Incessant thumbs aloft!!! (I quite like it personally but I can see how it would get a bit annoying).
Yoko... need I continue???!!!
The flip side is that they were just soooooooooo coooooooooooool!!!!!!!!

^^Ahhh yes, Paul's Pepper stache... I know I know it kind of became a "look" with all four of them and their mustaches... but I just hate it on Paul. It makes me laugh that he originally grew it to cover the scars from the moped accident too, I would've preferred the scar Paul!

^ I actually really like paul with the beard.
I am however annoyed at the fact that Ringo cannot take any current pics without that damn Peace Sign. I know some people find it cute and its kinda sorta become his trademark. Im jus over it. :S
