Not Guilty
« on: April 26, 2004, 06:18:04 AM »

Downloaded this fantastic piece of overlooked work from unreleasedbeatles, and was wondering if anyone by chance knows where I could find a guitar tab for this song?  Not that I couldn't learn it by ear myself, it's just easier and faster the other way.

Hmm... it isn't a bad song... I don't know where the guitar tab would be though.. I will look and then get back to you.

It'll probably be in a George Harrison song book - Not Guilty was first officially released on George's eponymous album, so there should be sheet music for that somewhere.

Sure!!! ... Sour Milk Sea too.

1. Not Guilty (recorded but unreleased until his solo album from 1979 titled "George Harrison", you know it from the Anthology 3 and it sounds very similar).
2. Sour Milk Sea (demo in Kinfauns, May 68, recorded by Jackie Lomax that year with George producing it -a good one that the guys should have used in TWA, IMO).

 ... and some others ...

3. Circles (demo from the same sessions in Esher, mostly instrumental at that moment and was unreleased till his solo album from 1982 titled "Gonne Troppo", no a great one, indeed).

4. See Yourself (actually in his 33 1/3 LP-1976):
"... is directly related to taking the drug LSD and Paul's experience with the press. John and I had taken two years before it was publicised. After having had that experience we (John and I) wanted the others to know about it because suddenly there seemed to be a big space between us and the other two. Ringo then had some but Paul would not take it. After about two years he finally did, and somehow then it all came out in the papers.

They went to Paul and said 'Have you taken the dangerous drug LSD?' and he said 'Look, I'm going to tell the truth: it's going to be your rsponsability, as the newspapers, passing it on'. So they said 'Look, just tell us, have you taken it or not?' and he said 'Yes'. And of course they passed it on to the waiting world. There was a big outcry with people saying 'You should have said 'No!'. I wrote most of that song back in 1967 but didn't finish it until much later.

It's easier to tell a lie than it is to tell the truth
It's easier to kill a fly than it is to turn it loose
It's easier to criticize somebody else
Than to see yourself

It was one of the tunes that I forgot about but in 1976 I remembered it, completed the lyrics to the bridge and the second and third verses, and recorded it that year."

5. Something (in a very early version at piano at the end of the sessions of TWA -inspired by "Something In The Way" of James Taylor, it's said that the same day Paul made an early version of what would become Let It Be).

I like them more than Piggies, for example ...

At least Piggies could be used by Paul  ::)

I su-pose that more than one have heard Piggies in Paul's Tiny Bubble (Driving Rain, 2001):

Tiny Bubble (McCartney) (Driving Rain LP, 2001)

If you're part of my love
Don't leave home tonight
While we're sleeping we can learn to see that
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside
Those of us who notice are
Expected to hide
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside, the truth

When I look in your eyes
I can see the sky
Shining down upon the perfect garden
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside
Those of us who notice are
Expected to hide
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside the truth

You can't imagine just what I've been going through
I wouldn't wish it on a soul much less on you
I well remember when my heart was free
My soul could laugh, so could we

If you're part of my love
Don't leave home tonight
While we're sleeping we can learn to see that
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside
Those of us who notice are
Expected to hide
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside, the truth

You can't imagine just what I've been going through
I wouldn't wish it on a soul much less on you
I well remember when my soul was free
My heart could sing, so could we

If you're part of my love
You won't leave home tonight
While we're sleeping we can learn to see that
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside
All the world's a tiny bubble
Floating inside

Piggies (Harrison) (The Guys LP, 1968 )

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.

Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.

In their styes with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking.

Everywhere there's lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.

I've heard that George forgave Paul 12 days before his death and he decided not to sue him for that plagiarism.
That was George ... I miss you friend.

I don't see the similarities. Is it supposed to sound similiar. I've never heard that Paul song. I don't really want to buy Driving Rain to find out either.

I wonder if George could have won that since Paul was actually in the band that he was supposedly plagiarising? That would have been interesting to see. Its not a clear cut case like Georges 'My Sweet Lord' issue. Hmmmm,,,,

I think that 'Not Guilty' was the song that The Beatles worked on the most with 100 takes - and still they didn't use it!

Maybe ... if you can't forget it ... by the way, were George and Paul the same person?

Sorry, I forgot it: let's forget it ...

Marshall is probably right with 'Get Back', but how many takes did they do with 'Maxwells Silver Hammer'? Wasnt all of them peeved at Paul due to how many takes that silly song was taking?
