T'was a week yesterday, when I made the decision to go down Oxford town and sell my PSP. I had been getting into Religion a bit (I started to read the bible, it's a crap read) and with George's last words on my mind ("Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another.") I put Brainwashed in the walkman and caught the stagecoach with a consciouss decision to sell this commercial product of brainwashing and get some books on the almighty. Anyways having sold my PSP I bought a couple of books on Buddhism, (I decided on Buddhism first, then Hinduism, then Islam etc, etc...). I was looking for Dark Horse and Extra Texture (I knew they're nowhere to be found in Ox, but I looked anyway), couldn't find them and settled on The Best of Badfinger. I just turned right out of HMV when a little bloke caught my attention with a beaming smile, he said:

"You look like an intelligent man, I'm from the Society of Krishna Consciousness..."

Ah, cheer up man. Coincidence? Maybe. On the other hand: there's lots of people like this man from the Krishna Society on the streets near where I live. If you really think this is coincidence... I believe you have put you mind and soul (and eyes and ears) open to other influences than the ones you were used to. I believe I will meet the right people at the right time. I believe closing a book will open another one. That is not coincidence, that is the way it is to be in your life.

The kingdom of heaven was a reference to whatever peace in your brain you find. No particular religion or notion....your own inner peace....That's what you take to the grave....Some people never find it.

The Best of Badfinger has some great stuff, but there's some great album tracks like "We're for the Dark" that are missing.

George produced some of Straight Up, I believe.  Great album.

As for religions, I'd look for a book titled The Joy of Sects.  It's a great book written from a wry perspective on the major and minor religions of the world.  Good starting point.

All religion as I see it is about detachment or nonattachment from things that limit the spirit--ego, money, control, power, self, bling . . . yes, even bling.

It's the spiritual discipline to see "I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together."

Also, watch out for element'ry penguins that become attached to chanting, wearing robes and drawing attention to themselves in airports.
