I always think of my sister when I hear The Association and Love is Blue. I have this wispy little memory of her coming home from somewhere then telling someone that Love is Blue had hit number one. It’s weird the little things that manage to stay in our memories!
There's an amusing back story to L'amour est bleu (Love is Blue). Paul Mauriat did not write the song. The music was composed by André Popp and the yrics were written by Pierre Cour, in 1967. It was performed by Greek singer Vicky Leandros as the Luxembourg entry in the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest...
She recorded the song in several languages and it was a modest hit in Europe.
Paul Mauriat recorded his instrumental version in late 1967 as it was published on his Philips Records label but, as he stated, he was not fond of the song at all.
I remember Love is Blue being a #1 hit on the charts for many weeks in early 1968.
Boy, was Paul Mauriat ever wrong on that one!
