Low E string help!!!!!!
« on: June 21, 2009, 03:58:56 AM »

Ok, I am new with Electric Guitars and this problem (or not a problem) didn't happen with my acoustic! The low E-String keeps breaking! And I mean like every month. So like today, I had to go to Electic Fetus and get just an E-string. Am I maybe stringing it wrong or playing to hard? Oh and by the way I use Ernie Ball slinky.

Welcome Em. You can try heavier guage strings (11's or 12's), look at your strumming technique, or check the saddle (It may need a small file down.) When stringing, allow 2 fingers worth of rap around on your pegs. Try also googling for more tips and advice or youtube instruction clips. :)

There might be a sharp edge on the bridge causing the string to break. No problems with Ernie Ball myself, should be okay.

Yeah, that's usually the problem when a string breaks too often.

On a side note:

I joined a new band two weeks ago. In their ad they asked for a guitarist who could "torture the strings".

During my first rehearsal, I broke three strings within thirty minutes. Not intentionally, of course. But I guess they got what they asked for.  ;D
