I thought I'd revisit this old thread.

I finally own all their CDs (took me a while to finally delve in and purchase them).  Bridge Over Troubled Water is still my favorite after two years, but Mrs. Robinson is a close second.

Also one that hasn't been mentioned that I absolutely adore is Keep The Customer Satisfied.  Jaunty little tune there, funny lyrics, awesome wailing brass section... it's definitely up there.  Gawd, I love that song.  :)

"America" is an amazing song.  I've also got a warm spot in my heart for "April Come She Will."  I like what he does with "Richard Cory" too--it's a shame not too many other singer-songwriters tried to update poets like E.A. Robinson.  At least not successfully as this.

Poor Paul has really lost his voice.  His pitch is almost gone.  Garfunkel can still hit the notes though.  He was so great on so many songs like "For Emily" "Only Living Boy in New York" "So Long Frank Lloyd Wright" and "Bridge over Troubled Water."

You know, "Mrs. Robinson" wasn't orginally going to be in the film, it was called Mrs. Roosevelt and it was written about the olden days. When Mike Nichols, the director tapped S&G to do the soundtrack, Simon said that he didn't have enough songs, and all he had was"Mrs. Roosevelt" so the director got him to re-write it.

It's just someting I know.

Well.. All of their songs are great...
Paul probably wrote the most beautiful lyrics in r'n'r.

I prefer Paul Simon solo, never really into Simon & Garfunkel.

Cecilia is one of the best songs S&G ever did as far as I'm concerned & much better than Sound Of Silence any day of the week.

Amen, Adam.  I could probably watch their Concert in Central Park every day and not get sick of it, and I'm not that staunch of an S & G fan. Favorite moment:  "Late Great Johnny Ace''.  Someone from the audience rushes the stage and yells something at Simon, and he stands there, Security takes the guy away, he has buzzing from his acoustic, and hardly misses a beat and keeps on with the song.  It's not on the album/CD, just on the video.  That is the essence of class and professionalism.

Stupid Paul Simon trivia:

The title "Mother & Child Reunion" was taken from a menu entree at a Chinese joint in NYC's Chinatown.  Cecilia is the Patron Saint of music (tho' that's got nothing to do with the song.)
