Now let me take you back, to the 4th of March 1966, the day London newspaper the Evening Standard published an article by Maureen Cleave titled How Does a Beatle Live – John Lennon Lives Like This. She visited John at his home and they strolled about talking casually about various subjects including words John later wished he could have pulled out of the air and stuff back  in to his mouth. Lennon pondered which would  go first – rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity, saying “Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary”. And he said “Christianity will go … it will vanish and shrink and I will be proved right”.Nobody in England took much notice. In fact there was no great controversy until months later, when the quote was reprinted in*the U.S. teen magazine called Datebook and the you know what really hit the fan. George Harrison, the pragmatist pointed out that while some people in the south took to burning Beatle records,they had to buy them first.Quite in contrast to all that, in terms of how much things would change post summer of Love and post Woodstock, fast forward 4 and half years to the fall of 1970, when John was no longer a Beatle, he went into the studio record his debut solo album … a record dealing largely with his troubled relationship with his parents and in the case of one song, dealing with walking away from his other family – The Beatles.
