James Taylor self titled LP
« on: November 12, 2005, 01:48:55 AM »

I got his debut album on LP today free, I prefer the versions on "Something In The Way" and "Carolina In My Mind" to his re-recorded ones for the 70's compilation... plus Macca plays bass on the latter!!! Nuff said.

I like this album a lot so far though.

I love the track You've Got A Friend. Great songwriter although there is much for me to discover with this guy.

Macca isn't credited with any production, Peter Asher produced it. I always wanted it coz it was one of the early Apple releases and I dig Badfinger and Jackie Lomax sounds not too shabby. So I wanted this for ages, but on cd it's too pricey, so I got the LP instead.

I love Maccas bass sound on "Carolina In My Mind" it sounds like Maccas sound but slightly muted, it's really cool and he doesn't overplay either.

I have this record on vinyl.  It's sorta interesting with the string "bridges" between the songs as I remember.  But I like the version of "Carolina in my Mind" that he redid in the 70s--it sounds fuller even if it doesn't have McCartney on bass.

I went to UNC-Chapel Hill undergrad.  "Carolina in my Mind" was kinda a theme song.  JT
s father was a med school professor at UNC as well.  Apparently the young JT ran pretty wild in the 60s as a teen, playing frat parties, etc.  His dad went to London where he was strung out on drugs and had to bring him home for treatment.  He looks pretty doped up on the cover of his first album.

...just ask bernard webb.

Sure you all know that bernard webb = paul mccartney

The fourth song that Paul wrote for Peter and Gordon was the song 'Woman'. The previous three ('A World Without Love', 'Nobody I Know' and 'I Don't Want To See You Again') had all become hits, and Paul had started to wonder whether that was because of the quality of the songs, or because Lennon/McCartney had written them. Therefor, he decided to write 'Woman' under the name of 'Bernard Webb'. Even so, 'Woman' too became a hit.

After this interruption you can continue with the subject.
