If I Needed Someone- Live @ Budokan
« on: August 13, 2008, 01:30:00 PM »

I have always liked this song enough, but never given it the respect it is due.  Last night I watched the entire Budokan concert and this song was played.  Though George's voice wasn't at its peak, this song stood out to me for some reason.  I pulled out the album and have played it several times since.  It is funny how you start liking a song more after you hear it live.  The live performance was nice and laid back.

I believe If I Needed Someone was the only George written Beatles song to ever be played during tours. I remember reading that somewhere.

I really enjoy this song.  I like the story of it and George's voice I think is perfect for it.

the show at budokan was quite funny, i find. John's mis-singing in Baby's in Black . And his "sing song singie...." and the opera singing... excellent!

LOVED george's number! Very good. Yes, he didnt do many of his songs live with the beatles. But he is a good Live preformer, george is. Especially in the older days when he would sing stuff like Everybody's trying to be my baby.

The Budokan perfomance is funny.  I know the Beatles hated not being heard and the circus around their shows (it ultimately led them to not tour anymore), but I think this crowd being subdued made them an little uneasy as well in the opposite way.

And John hated the mike was turning itself while he and Paul were singing harmony vocal....haha. XD
The mike sucked!

You are correct. But let's face it, there wasn't much of any worth before that!

That was pretty bad. George's singing is horrible.

You know, the balance between the voices was not good. I can't ever remember reading about their having a "sound man" - someone with a mixing board sitting somewhere in the audience, and adjusting the tone and balance as they play live.

Does anyone know anything about that? It's very common for even the smallest bands to have that nowadays ...

I'm not sure, I'll have to look that up. But still, George's singing is pretty bad.

George had a hard time with this song at the 1966 Shea Stadium concert also.

I've always liked the Budokhan 'if I needed someone' I think its the wavering backing vocals in it - similar to the sound on 'I want to tell you'.
