Is it the kiss of death to be in McCartney's backing band? This is what Hamish Stuart does now:
He runs this modest pub - The Three Mariners - in Faversham, Kent.
People will accept "going rate", people will play for free to play with people like Paul McCartney. Don't see that he doesn't pay lots makes him a skin flint. He's not dragging them by the nose hairs into the studio or on stage!
I think running a pub is a fine vocation, I'm happy for him. Remember, it's not like these guys have an accounting or astrophysics background to fall back on (except Brian May!), what are they going to do when the gigs dry up and the money for the recording studio does too?
All in all, it looks like he's landed on his feet more than a lot of people who played in famous bands in the 60s and 70s.
