The Dead Kennedys
« on: February 09, 2006, 02:36:07 AM »

The best punk band ever! The best political band ever!

East Bay Ray is one of the few guitarists in hardcore punk who's not afraid to show proficiency at his lead, playing pumping guitar work behind Jello Biafra's spat out lyrics full of venomous, genius political assaults on the conservist "chickensh*t conformist just like your parents." He even addresses the problem of wanna-be punks in a key track from his most recent solo album, Those Dumb Punk Kids (Will Buy Anything).

I like them alright, I'm not really into punk music that much but a few bands I like. (I am in a punk band too lmao) I like the Misfits, Minor Threat, The Dead Kennedys though. I think some punk bands are hilarious for instance Anti-Flag, All they do is spew on about evil corporations and they are signed to a major record label. They do have catchy tunes though.

I've got "In God We Trust, Inc.", "Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death" and a live album.

One of the most important punk bands: yes, one of the best: in my opinion, no.

I think they're sincere, so I wouldn't call it hilarious. At least they're trying to make a positive change. That's always good.

If you want to change the world, you've got to try to reach as many people as possible. If that means you have to make a few compromises, so be it. There are a lot of bands that shout about changing everything but they're always performing for the same 50 kids that already share their ideas. And what do they get done? Nothing. Bands like Rage Against The Machine on the other hand reached a whole lot of people and introduced them to books and ideas that they otherwise never would have noticed.

I dont agree, I think they are just doing it for money. I mean you can scream and scream all you want but it dosnt matter one bit if you dont put what you believe into action.

Yeah Danzig is great. Funny looking guy though. The Lyrics on their songs are hilarious. Check out the song "Angelf***" LOL

Some of their songs sound like they could be a 50's or 60's song just changed around a bit, "Some Kind Of Hate" for instance.

I don't like Danzig solo and I don't like post-Danzig Misfits too much either. But Misfits with Danzig is amazing.

And Henry Rollins is one of my heroes. And I'm not even really into most of his music, but I'm a huge fan of his books and his spoken word stuff. Get In The Van, Black Coffee Blues and Do You Come Here Often? are some of my favorite books, and on top of that, he's hands down the funniest stand up comedian I've ever seen... Hands down. I've got all of his spoken words CDs, that guy is just amazing. The way he can make small irritations seem funny is incredible... Jerry Seinfeld, eat your heart out...

I'm into Black Flag but mostly the pre-Rollins stuff. My favorite musical release by Rollins is easily the Henrietta Collins & The Wifebeating Childhaters EP.

Don't judge what you don't know... The members of Anti-Flag actually DO put what they believe into action. I can assure you that their political activism goes beyond just a few song lyrics.

It really irritates me that everyone always tries to bring the good ones down... If you want to accuse someone of singing stupid things, aim at Fred "I Might Break Your F*cking Face Tonight" Durst or Slim "Stab You In The Head Whether You're A f** Or Lez" Shady.

Even if Anti-Flag would be hypocrites, I still think it's a hell of a lot better to be inconsistantly right than consistantly wrong.

Yes but I am a very cynical person, and you are right I should not judge until I have all the facts.

I'm downloading a few of his songs with DOA. I've heard a few here and there and they are quite good. Very different from The Kennedys.
