Hope this thread isnt just Moog and I

Some of these old tracks are great, when I moved to Oz in the 80's I left and England full of Synth rock and new romantic style music, I arrived in Oz to be pleasantly surprised to find a swathe of guitar based bands Id never heard of.

Id like to start with this one by The Sunnyboys, catchy as hell, Ive been singing it all day. hope you enjoy.

The Angels were quite a big band down under, this is my favourite of theirs, love playing it live with the band

That was fun, Kev! You guys will probably laugh at my offering. I either didn’t know, or forgot, that Air Supply came from Australia. I saw them at a county fair but I don’t remember much about the concert. I remember the t-shirt I got better. It had a rainbow on it so I wore it a lot. I like rainbows. LOL Anyway, this video is kind of lame but I always though this song was pretty, especially the first part.

A band I liked as a new adult was Icehouse. They started quite guitar driven but did feel the pull of the 80s electronica. Nevertheless in their early stuff the strong beat and guitars still dominated. Interesting trivia, their original band name was Flowers. Their first album was called Icehouse. They must have decided that was a cooler name as they decided to adopt it.

Air Supply always had the reputation of being more popular in the US than in Australia. A friend once gleefully told me that, when Air Supply played pubs in Australia, they had ashtrays thrown at them. Probably apocryphal but their soft melodic rock didn’t sit well with the pub rock vibe of the late 70s and early 80s in Oz.

Still they were good at what they did.

They were huge when I was a younger teen. They had a good comeback in the 80s with some rockier tunes.

Trawling early 80s Australian music is making me mistily nostalgic.

These guys were a clever band. Mental as Anything. They usually had witty lyrics and very catchy tunes. Best exemplified by If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too. They were a dual songwriter/lead singer arrangement with both the leads, Martin Plaza and keyboardist Greedy Smith, sharing in the hit writing and singing.

Being a bit of a Prog fan its inevitable that my favourite Oz band is Sebastian Hardie

Mario Millo probably imo the best guitarist to come out of Oz (not counting Tommy Emmanuel who is phenomenal) Mario has that touch.

Ah; I was thinking of those heavy glass kind I used to see in restaurants. But when it comes to ashtrays, you don't see many of these nowadays, do you?
