My favorite songs from this album are Misery, Anna and Do you want to know a secret. Great album that was recorded in such a short period of time, it was basically a live album :)

Yeah, it's amazing when you think about it - most of these tracks are just the Beatles plugged in and recorded! The only overdubs were claps, harmonica and occasional piano! Most amazing of all is the fact that the last song they recorded that night was Twist And Shout - and they got that in just one take! What you hear on that track is the Beatles REALLY live!

Recently, Paul has tried to go back to this way of recording, and in my opinion his releases have been all the better for it.

yeah, Twist and Shout was basically live. I think they did 2 takes of it, right?. You can clearly tell that John's voice is raspy and it's not at his best but it suits the song just perfectly :D

My recording sessions book says the take on the album is the first take. A second take was started but broke down.

This is a pretty good album. The only songs on this album I don't enjoy are Boys, A Taste of Honey and Love Me Do.

Yeah, apparently John's voice had completely gone by the 2nd take! He had a heavy cold and you can actually hear him cough during the fade-out of the final chord! Unfortunately the 2nd take doesn't exist any more.

Please Please Me is one of the greatest debut albums of all time in rock joining the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd & Van Halen which was important, influential & explosive back in the early 60's.

Absolutely! Nowerdays, there is no one capable of making songs under 2 minutes that will still be talked about in 40 years time!
