I actually remembuh watching this segment on Entertainment Tonight when it was broadcast in 1989.  The remaining Shangri-Las (there were three then but now only two are left, Mary and Betty) brought suit against this low-life producer who stole their name and was managing some fake Shangri-Las...

^^^
I don't remembuh hearing about it then but I did watch this the other night. That guy was sickening. I don't think the situation ever was really resolved. I saw a music history blog post from 2014 referring to "present-day line up" of The Shangri-Las. Someone commented and set him straight!

Yeah, Kelley.  I didn't usually watch ET.  It was on after the evening news and I would shut off the TV at that point, but a short promo aired that there would be a segment about The Shangri-Las so I didn't shut off the television.

In the video I posted with the studio chatter, you can hear Shadow Morton talking.  He never produced a record in his life but wrote Remember (Walking In The Sand) one night and gave it to the unknown-at-the-time Shangri-Las to do a demo recording (Billy Joel played the piano).  It became The Shangri-Las debut single and the rest is history.

That's interesting, Barry. Lots of young talent on that demo!
