60's #1 Songs
« on: May 28, 2006, 04:17:23 AM »

I want to make a C.D. of just songs that made it to number 1 in the U.K. during the 60's. So far I have a few of my favourite Beatles number one songs, Satisfaction and Honky Tonk Women by the Stones and Needles and Pins by the searchers. Does anyone have any suggestions. I dont really know that many songs that made it to number 1 so help is needed  ;D

Nope. Jimi only had one top 40 hit and it was All Along the Watchtower.

there's got to be lots of songs that made it to number one but my mind goes blank trying to think of bands that were big and good selling records.

You definately NEED the Beach Boys.

If you want to stick to the 60s #1's, you could get I Get Around, Good Vibrations or Help Me Rhonda.

The old lists must be available on the internet somewhere. When I've got time left, I'll have a search. I know I'm Alive by The Hollies and No Milk Today by Herman's Hermits.

I've got a list, but hell there's so many. You'll have to narrow down your search. Many many one hit wonders

^ There's quite some Beatlessongs that were #1 for just one of two weeks. Particularly in the mid 60's. Interesting. One could say that they were at the heights of their popularity round that time, but the numbers tell another story.

Nice link.  Interesting reading.  Damn, Bobby Vinton had a lot of number ones!  Also the Singing Nun was bigtime about the time the Beatles broke.    :K)
