It'll take some time before the legions of young men touched by him start coming out of the woodwork.

Clapton didn't touch as many young people as George. Is that a good or a bad thing? We all have to decide for ourselves.

Woh woh woh, this seems like a petty argument here. Death is still death. They both died young and it's sad either way. I don't see why you had to emphasize John's death, like you are trying to belittle George's struggle. With your logic, you could say 'At least John went fast, George however battled with cancer for years and died a much slower death.' Why can't we just mourn and not nitpick over who went more fairly? The answer is neither, but life is suffering, as we all can see.

Well said, my friend!

Life is what you make it. And living in a country where I believe I have a great opportunity to make a difference I intend to make that difference.

I hope you do to.

I wasn't a fan at the time, but y'know, i'd heard of 'this dude' -- he was with the Beatles, a big musician...I mean, hearing this stuff just always depresses me anyway. But I remember seeing all the news and it was just...weird. Trying to think about what I think of people's deaths...just feels weird.

But this year [when I started getting into the Beatles] I was really...sad. I didn't know what to do, I just wanted to stay in bed with my CD player all day and try to think of what I knew of John and George's lives, not deaths...but it was confusing. At school, people kept asking me -- "Didn't that guy out of the Beatles die today?" and it was...urgh. --;;

I was saddened, and watched the TV special News 24 broadcast. Actually, like John, he was also too young to go. Only 58. His last words were 'Love one another', and I think he would have wanted us to take that as seriously as possible. Since politics seems to have largely failed in making the world a much better place, I think George had it right. At least on a moral level.

No, I'm sure  it was the start to a joke but he just couldn't make it to the punch line.  :)

Are you trying to nark me because I'm the one who takes the love and peace stuff seriously? On the other hand, George had a sense of humour. So, he might have seen it your way, for all we know.
