Hello Goodbye

^

It didn't sound like you were jumping down my throat at all, Kathy.  I laughed when I read your original post.  I had to look up what halva is, however.  You learn something new every day.   :)

Now, as far as redneck lifestyle goes, they make mighty fine musicians.  For example, here's a banjo tune that we learn when we begin learning how to play...

Cripple Creek

That's Tracy Newman, Saturday Night Live's Laraine Newman's older sister.

Flatt and Scruggs played it like this...

But my favorite version is by these here fellers...

Thanks, Barry.  :) Maybe I was remembering wrong. I've been so swamped lately that I probably shouldn't even be posting anything on here. I just sent the wrong file to a publisher for typesetting, and luckily the error was caught, although not by me.

Ugh, halva! I have gamely tried many German/Russian foods here and have not like any of them, but just the sound of it makes my throat close up.

I tend to get defensive about North Dakota; I don't fit in here very well. I could go on and on about that, but I'll spare you all.  ;)

Don't worry about it, Kathy.  The post you deleted wasn't bad at all.  Most of it was reminding me that you're originally from New York and your children were raised in Virginia.

Now, I'm the one who lived in North Carolina as a child and experienced something that shouldn't be confused with redneck lifestyle, and that is segregation.  Yes, I remember when we lived in Edenton where public restrooms and water fountains were labeled black and white.  There were even black and white shopping days.  My father once parked in front of a soda fountain and candy store and gave me a nickel to go inside and get a Hershey bar.  The store owner sent me out of the store without selling me the candy bar.  I told my dad what happened and he took me inside and asked for an explanation.  The owner pointed to a posted sign on the wall.  It was Wednesday and that was a black shopping day.

I'd learned about the segregated water fountains and such, but I wasn't aware there were different shopping days. How sad.  :(

It was very sad, Kathy.  My parents spent a lot of time teaching me what it was all about...

I had completely forgotten about that song!

I saw Pete Seeger at Cornell in 1990. I don't remember if he played this.

Hello Goodbye

In 1957 the author, Earl Robinson, recorded his own version of the song...

The song was inspired by the United States Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which outlawed racial segregation of public schools.

I didn't realize this was available. Just placed an order for a DVD. (I don't have a Blu Ray player, unfortunately).

I was puzzled to see it labeled as "Season 1" even though the full run time of nearly 8 hours is listed.

My DVD arrived today!

2nd one arrives Saturday- why 2 you may ask?  Accident but already have a friend ready to accept my gift to him

Funny that when someone here brought this back to the top I must have ordered it twice.  Losing my mind but this outcome is ok

That was kind of you, blmeanie.

Mine arrived yesterday. I'm relieved to have my own permanent copy, although I prefer the flexibility of streaming.
