This Beatles Advent calendar is a bit pricey for me given all the stress-spending I've been doing lately (soooo many books!), but it's hard to resist:

After all the years of doing creative Advent calendars for my kids, I think I deserve this.   And, of course, I can rationalize just about any Beatles purchase.

Oh wow. Me want too!

I went ahead and ordered it and was able to pay for it with credit card rewards points.  icon_cool

Of course, I'll have to keep this top secret locally. One of my friends texted yesterday to our group that she exceeded her grocery budget by 18 cents. So a purchase like this wouldn't go over well at all.

^^^^^^

. . . and, of course, Murphy's Law (or financial karma?) kicked in, and my printer/scanner just died.  :(

It's better than lighting your cigars with $100 bills in front of them.

True! <laugh> But I'm probably the least well off, financially, of my friends. The issue is that people here cannot seem to grasp the concept of a splurge. When my older daughter was home at Christmas 2019, we picked up a dragonfruit during a grocery shopping trip because we'd never tasted one before. That little anecdote was met with polite but puzzled stares (the dragonfruit was $10) and, I sensed, mild reproof. So now I keep stuff like that to myself.

halloween is coming, my group of hydrofoilers started a tradition last year with costume hydrofoiling, video from LY below

https://youtu.be/aWnd1ePv61I

This year, I decided to come back to my roots and these are components of my costume, I'm mixing eras but felt the jacket would remain open/loose and I would put the NYC t-shirt underneath.

Working on the long long sideburns (real) ahead of time, have the stache/gotee to clean up as needed

Here is inspiration photo along with components purchased

I was Yoda last year

I will share the video after this year, hope my Sgt Pepper costume gets here in time.  I have one from 35 years ago that hangs in my closet ...but...doesn't fit as well anymore and that one I don't want it going in the lake either.

two things as long as you commented on my upcoming halloween costume

I want a prop while hydrofoiling, thinking one of these inflatable guitars will be good, which color should I use?

Secondly - when I am on the foil, I will play a special playlist for my ride (normally play a playlist, some beatles, mostly 80's).  With the theme of the costume should I construct :

a) a Sgt Pepper playlist (my ride would be 15-20 minutes long - so it would be through Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite)
b) a Lennon psychedelic inspired playlist (think - Lucy, Strawberry Fields, Walrus, All you Need is Love)

how vote you?

I'd go with red, to complement the red trim on the coat.  :)

That's a tougher call! I'd probably go with Option (b), but you can't really go wrong with either choice.

I think it's impressive that you can (a) hydrofoil with (b) a costume and (c) a prop and (d) listening to music. I am one of those people who can't walk and chew gum at the same time, so I admire the skill that must all entail.

in fairness, the prop will be a new thing for me, a friend last year had a sword so I think our competitiveness requires me to go for the guitar.

I agree and am leaning on b for music choices, thanks for confirming for me it is the better choice

Regardless of the costumes that looks like amazing fun  icon_good

Look forward to seeing the video with Sgt Pepper.

I won't be wearing the Daisy Dukes, though. Thirty years ago—heck, yeah. But at my age (mid-50s), nah.  ;)

I reckon so.  You best be a dressin' like this an' do some fishin' out yonder at the ceement pond...

;D

I can stay till it's time to go

Sorry for jumping down your throat in my now-deleted post, Barry. It's been a rough week, and I tend to type before my brain catches up with my emotions. Perhaps there's a New Year's resolution for me in there.  ;)
