^ Oh the nightmares. If Rod's not careful someone might mistake that microphone for his penis.

Ouch. Guess we should give a nod to Lennon with his collaboration on Bowie's Fame (though he seems to refer to it as white or plastic soul.

Re-ouch, Kevin. You are rubbin’ it in, now. These last few clips physically hurt my ears. But I do get the point – theoretically speaking – that someone younger can find the later 1970’s romantically appealing. Sheik Yerbouti, is still much more my cup of tea than KC and the Sunshine Band, I guess. Is it OK if I don’t view them clips in extenso?

I don`t say they are popular now, but looking at the band now I can say that it has occupied the high place it really deserves. And I think that all those hippies who criticised it at the time now have come to accept it and its legacy.

Honestly, I am not sure of that, Jane. Really not sure. Wings’ highly deserved place and legacy? First, lets ask ourselves the real question: what if Paul McCartney would not have been at the head of Wings and/or an ex-Beatle, what would have been Wings high place and legacy in 20th century popular music?

Not convinced. Perhaps my old ears failed me, at a certain point. I dunno.

Wings ruled the 70's, here's some facts for you all.

Before Wings officially disbanded in 1981 (after 10 years), the band scored 24 top 40 hits, 14 of which made the top 10, six went   to No. 1.

· With the exception of the 1978 platinum compilation "Wings Greatest", all of the band's nine albums reached the top 10.

· Each of the five consecutive albums between "Red Rose Speedway" and 1976's "Wings Over America" went to No. 1. ("Band on   the Run," "Venus and Mars," "Wings at the Speed of Sound")

· In 1973, Wings had their first #1 single with "My Love" off the "Red Rose Speedway" album which also went to #1.

· The "Venus and Mars "album released in 1975 had many hit singles including: "Listen To What The Man Said" which went to #1.

· The 1978 "London Town" album hit single "With A Little Luck" went to #1.

· "Wings Over America" (triple album) released December 1976 went to #1.

· In 1980, the RIAA certified that Wings (not Paul solo, but Wings as a band) surpassed the Beatles in record sales.

· Wings were nominated for more Grammys than any other band in the 70's with the exception of the Bee Gees.

Lets rephrase that. Paul ruled the 70's.

I just have a hard time with the whole Wings thing. I know i've beaten it into the ground, but seriously, the members of Wings were nothing more than Pauls backing band. I even think he paid them scale at the time. I mean, Paul wrote all the tunes except for a select few that Denny wrote and those sucked. Take Paul away from Wings and you have sh*t. Nothing. Nada.

I dont know why I even posted that as everybody knows it already, but it made me feel better.

Is 'Arrow Through Me' considered disco?

I remember back end of the 70's everybody was jumping on the Disco band wagon
.
.
.
yes definitely, and if you think about it, Another One Bites the Dust and Another Brick in the Wall kind of fit in there because of the drumbeat and thumping bass ! (in my opinion, anyway)

I've always thought it sounds very Hall and Oates. I know the tag gags on some people, but that's often described as White Soul - like Young Americans. So I'd say no, but it's getting darned close.

'White Soul'? Yeah, I like that. It describes the song perfectly with the horns and such.

I dont know, the song popped in my head and I was wondering where it fell and disco was the only thing I could come up with, but its to slow.

I would say "Arrow Through Me"  is R&B , Paul as charted on the US R&B charts twice with "Say Say Say"  # 2 and The Girl Is Mine # 1 , both with MJ .
The US R&B charts have given both Bowie and Lisa Stansfield R&B Hits  ,Lisa Stansfield as charted nine times and had 3 R&B # 1' records.
I don't like the term white soul or blue eyed soul or even black soul music ,it's  R&B music to me.
Stevie Wonder ,Dusty Springfield ,Paul McCartney ,John Lennon, Michael Jackson ,Alicia Keys , David Bowie ,Luther Vandross and Lisa Stansfield all have R&B vocies it should'nt be a colour issue , just the vocal and the groove of the song that matters , thats what i say say say  ha2ha

I would say Disco does'nt have a colour either ?
It's got R&B roots , but any cheesy performer can jump on it's bandwagon and did , it's one of the few positive things about disco anyone can roll out the cheese  ;D

I've always struggled with the term R&B. I've heard it used to describe some of the old blues/jazz singers to rockers like Dr Feelgood. Nowdays the word RnB seems to be given to any black artist who isn't knocking out hip hop.

^^^^It's a difficult area Kevin there are some soulful white singers and an increasing number of mixed race singers as well as black singers , i just tend to call soulful voices R&B now , it's the emotion of how you sing and not your colour .
