Well, the hospital where I did my residency training was Mount Sinai which attracted many celebrities. It's across Fifth Avenue from Central Park so we often took our lunch break in the park. We were bound to see John Lennon. And we did. The others were patients.
I treated Edgar Harburg in the ER one evening. I didn't know who he was until after I discharged him. The RN I gave his completed chart to told me who he was. On follow-up the next day, I was acting starstruck and fumbling around. I apologized by saying "I'm sorry I didn't recognize you last night, Mr. Harburg." "I'm glad you dudn't, doctor," he replied. "And you can call me Yip," he added.
