nice post about big Mal. What I don't get is how he died. I always thought he committed suicide but it doesn't seem like it.

I know, and it's hardly ever mentioned in any Beatle book. I think Mal deserves greater recognition for his contribution to the Beatles' story.

Evans, Mal
In the early and mid-sixties M.E. was a roadie for the Beatles. Mal invited Bill Collins to a Beatles recording session in 1967; this led to that Paul McCartney got interested in hearing The Iveys. In 1968 Mal Evans brought a tape of Iveys recordings to the Apple offices and both Derek Taylor and Paul McCartney were impressed them. This eventually led to The Iveys signing to Apple Records in in 1968. Evans came to produce some tracks on

Is this -- "In 1965 Mal accompanied The Beatles to their famous meeting with his idol Elvis - his account of this legendary meeting remains untold!" -- still true?
Does anyone know of this meeting and can you point us to an online account of same?

I think only the Beatles themselves and Elvis ever spoke at length about the meeting - but their recollections conflict. A few books have been written though, but they're mainly speculation.

The Story of How Mal Evans had to drive from the south (Beatles in back) up to Liverpool in freezing conditions, with the front window smashed out ( a stone cracked the glass, and Mal then had to smash it all out) ... only knowing where he was driving by looking at the edge of the road.

The late Mal Evans has to be the most famous roadie of all time since I don't know too many in other rock groups.

Poor Mal. A gentle giant indeed. He was cremated and his ashes were lost so nobody knows where his final resting spot is.
