The FBI's favorite song...."Louie, Louie" (The Kingsmen, 1964)“Louie Louie” peaked at #2 in January 1964, behind Bobby Vinton’s “There! I’ve Said It Again” – the very last #1 single before Beatlemania overtook the U.S. the next month.
Always thought it was wild that CCR never had a #1 hit, but had a ton of #2's.
Yeah, "Louie, Louie" is better remembered than lots of #1 hits. Thanks for your post, Kelley.
Ironically, Linda couldn't get to #1 because of The Captain & Tennille's Love Will Keep Us Together.
Hmm, yes that is ironic! I guess there were a lot of other kids obsessed with that song in the summer of 1975. Every summer there was that one song that would make us turn the radio up and sing at the top of our lungs. LOL
Another #2:http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x32ub6a_the-who-smothers-brothers-show-interview-my-generation-1967_musicThat alone should have bumped it up to #1.
I guess "My Generation" was too revolutionary for its time. It reached #2 in UK and just #74 in US!
Oh, wow. I didn't realize it didn't do any better than that here.
